Gymnastics For Children
Our school age gymnastics classes are organised by age/school year, as follows:
Introduction to Gymnastics
Primary 1 boys and girls
Our introductory gymnastics classes build on any learning gained in our pre-school programmes, by introducing more structure and gymnastic-specific skills. This class is also suitable as an introduction to gymnastics for children who have not attended our pre-school programme. Classes last for an hour with the focus on developing gymnastics skills, hand/eye co-ordination, movement to music and general fitness, using fun techniques.
Gymnastics for Girls
Separate classes for P2-3 and P4-7 girls
Our girls gymnastics training is a logical progression of skills learned in our introductory classes, with an increasing focus on individual training plans and goals. These sessions follow ETKO Sports Academy’s Fundamental Movement and Basic Sport Skills Programme©, developing additional structure and gymnastics-specific skills. Participation in our unique programme develops core skills, thereby benefiting children who wish to access a variety of sports and physical activities.
Gymnastics for Boys
Separate classes for P2-4 and P5+ boys
Our boys gymnastics training is a logical progression of skills learned in our introductory classes, with an increasing focus on individual training plans and goals. The sessions continue to follow ETKO Sports Academy’s Fundamental Movement and Basic Sport Skills Programme© and also allow members to gain exposure to the movements, skills, techniques and apparatus that are specific to boys gymnastics.
ETKO Gymnastics Academy
Girls and boys programmes – by selection only
Our ETKO Gymnastics Academy programmes are for girls and boys who have reached an advanced stage in their gymnastics training. Participation is by coach invitation.
1:1 Gymnastics Coaching
Selective 1:1 coaching may be available by invitation when members are working towards achieving a specific skill or goal.
Girls, S1 upwards
Our teen gym sessions are sociable, fun and suitable for a mix of abilities. ETKO instructors will work increasingly closely with class participants to develop individual training plans and goals, so that progress can be made at the correct level and pace. Classes last 1.25 hours.
Fitness for Kids
Some of these sessions take place in the morning, before school, and are suitable for 8-18 year olds.
Our Fitness for Kids classes can help to enhance performance across many other sports. The sessions offer a number of additional benefits in terms of endurance, co-ordination, motor skills and an improved ability to recover after exercise.
Wrestling at ETKO Sports Academy
The philosophy of ETKO Sports Academy is to inspire a lifelong love of fitness in members of all ages, this is how our Director and Commonwealth Bronze Medal Winner, Vio Etko developed the idea of creating a wrestling programme to improve the love and standard of wrestling in the local area. The programme has been created to introduce the sport to children of all abilities and make them aware of the fundamentals of the sport with the main outcome of this programme the teaching of technical skills in a controlled and secure environment.
Vio has worked tirelessly to create a programme with three progressive stages, Introduction to Wrestling for P1 chldren, plus additional sessions for junior wrestlers age 5-8 and 9-14. Each stage has been created to incorporate the fundamentals of the sport and help participants achieve specific skills. The programme will contain related games and exercises that will aid in the overall development of muscular endurance, coordination, balance, speed, flexibility and body awareness. Each session has been created in a structured format with a series of lesson plans for each skill level.
Upon completing each stage, the participant will have a good basic knowledge of wrestling skills and may be invited to join our wrestling development sessions where they will learn how to effectively apply their wrestling knowledge in a competitive environment.
Introduction to Wrestling (P1)
Our Mighty Movers classes are suitable for children in primary 1. The Mighty Movers classes build on any learning gained in our pre-school programmes, by introducing more structure and wrestling-specific fundamentals and skills. Classes last for an hour with the focus on developing wrestling fundamentals and skills, development of muscular endurance, coordination, balance, speed, flexibility, body awareness and general fitness, using fun techniques by trained instructors.
Wrestling for Boys and Girls
Our junior wrestling classes for boys and girls build on learning gained during the earlier stages of our wrestling programme. Their inclusive nature means that they are suitable for children of all abilities.
Classes are divided into two different age categories, as follows:
- 5-8 years
- 9-14 years
As with all our children’s programmes, these classes are underpinned by ETKO Sports Academy’s Fundamental Movement and Basic Sport Skills Programme©.
In addition to learning introductory wrestling techniques, class participants will benefit from strength and conditioning instruction, which can help to enhance performance across a range of sports.
Primary through to S1
Our ETKO running classes focus on fundamentals (with the emphasis on fun!), which allow members to develop their natural running skills by building awareness of movement, agility, balance and co-ordination.
The ETKO running programme includes beginners sessions, which are ideal for those who are just starting to explore the benefits of running. Sessions for more experienced runners encourage individuals to build greater stamina, speed and capability in their running.
All ETKO running classes incorporate a mixture of fun and challenging exercises and drills, which help participants to build their own personal stamina and endurance levels. An athlete-centred approach is key to class delivery.
