A group of young athletes from ETKO Gymnastics Academy recently enjoyed a successful weekend in Perth at the Summer Beginner & Intermediate Floor & Vault competition.
Several teams from ETKO Gymnastics Academy travelled down to the event at Bells Sports Centre, with all members competing at intermediate level.
ETKO Gymnastics Academy’s youngest representatives participated in the age 10 category. The A team of Lily Park, Amy McKay and Niah McIntosh clinched the silver medal, with Lily also gaining the individual gold medal overall, as a result of her gold and silver medal performances on floor and vault respectively.
There was further medal success for the age 11 A team. The ETKO Gymnastics Academy trio, comprising of Tasia Stuart, Caitlin O Neil and Freya Wallace, picked up a bronze medal for their efforts.
ETKO Gymnastics Academy members also competed strongly in the age 12/3 and age 14+ categories. Madelyn Mair and Emma Booth both received rosettes for sixth place on floor in the 12/13 category, in which they competed alongside teammate Louisa MacIver. Alana Urquhart represented ETKO Gymnastics Academy in the age 14+ category.
Commenting on the girls’ achievements, head coach Laura Etko said: “This was a great experience for our gymnasts. It was extremely rewarding to see their training and commitment realised in such a solid set of results.
“It was a delight to be with them on competition day. The occasion was made particularly enjoyable by the support of my fellow coach Grant McKay and our gymnasts’ families, many of whom made the trip south to cheer on the girls.”
